Leader Introduction
Welcome students as they arrive with their parents.
OPTIONAL: As they arrive, play the song “Obey.”
Today’s Bible story reinforces and expands the lesson from Lesson 1 about God calling Noah to build an ark. Noah obeyed all of God’s instructions, and because he did, God protected Noah, his family, and all of the animals during the great flood. When we obey God, He will bless our lives and protect us.
*Scripture is quoted
from the New Living Translation.
Noah Says
- No supplies
Note: If time is short, skip this game or save it until the end of class.
The game we are going to play is like a game called “Simon Says.” But our game is called “Noah Says.” You will only do the motion or sound if you hear “Noah Says” first. If Noah doesn’t say to do it, then just stay very still! Are you ready?
Have the children stand. Give each direction below, beginning some by saying “Noah Says” and others without saying it, to see if the children are really listening!
If a child doesn’t follow the directions, do not have them sit “out” for the rest of the game.
Note: On unfamiliar “builder” actions, model the action for the children to follow.
[Noah says:]
Baa like a sheep.
Jump up and down.
Saw a tree branch.
Bark like a puppy.
Hammer a board.
Skip in place.
Oink like a pig.
Twirl around three times.
Cluck like a chicken.
Pat your head.
Paint the ark (boat).
Neigh like a horse.
Cover your head from the rain.
Growl like a tiger.
Chirp like a bird.
Hiss like a snake.
Pat your tummy.
Moo like a cow.
Shout “AMEN!”
Fly like a dove.
Look at the rainbow in the sky.
Snap like an alligator.
Rock back and forth like a boat in the waves.
Wiggle your ears.
Wave goodbye.
Add other directions until it is time to do the next activity.
You may choose to play in three different ways:
● Noah stands at the head of the class and gives directions to follow (or not to follow, if you don’t begin by saying “Noah says”).
● Noah stands in the circle of children to give directions. This is a good choice for a small room.
● Noah can lead the children around the room in a parade and do different actions or noises to follow. This is fun in a large room or outside. Consider having the children march in pairs or “two by two.”
Good job, everyone! You were great listeners and did what Noah asked right away! When you cheerfully do what you are told—right away—it is called obedience!
Lesson
In this lesson, we will learn the importance of obedience.
Obedience means to cheerfully do what you are told, right away.
Let’s watch our Bible story about how God called an obedient man named Noah to build something very big! The Bible tells us that Noah did exactly what God told him to do (Genesis 6:22; 7:5), even when the rest of the world didn’t listen to God.

Teaching Time
- Ark Page
- Rainbow Page
- Noah Page
- Animal Page
- Dove Page
- Five sheets of cardstock
- Optional: markers or crayons to color the images, if printed in black and white
- Bible or the Superbook Bible App
Make one copy of each of the five pages on cardstock in color or black and white.
Optional: If images are in black and white, color them using markers or crayons.
Give one image each to five children. Have them stand in front of you in a row, facing the class. At your cue, they will raise and lower their images for the class to see.
Tell the Bible story slowly using the bullets provided. Say the words in bold text loudly to help cue the children to display their corresponding images.
Be expressive! Bring excitement and interest to the story by varying your facial expression, voice, and volume level.
When God speaks, use a deep but not scary voice.
● Long ago, no one on the earth obeyed God except for Noah.
● Because of this, God decided to send a flood to destroy every living thing on the earth except for Noah, his family, and two of each kind of animal.
● God told Noah to build a huge boat called an ark to keep his family and all the animals safe.
● Noah obeyed ALL of God’s instructions and built the ark, just as God said.
● When it was time, God told Noah, his family, and the animals to enter the ark
● God sent the rain. It rained, and it rained, and
it rained for 40 days and 40 nights!
Optional: have the class make rain sounds by
slapping their knees with their hands.
● There was so much rain that the highest mountains were covered by water!
● Because Noah obeyed God, Noah’s family and the animals stayed safe on the ark!
● Then God sent a strong wind.
Optional: have
the class say “woo” like the sound of the wind.
● Slowly, the water began to go down, down, and down.
● After many days, Noah opened a window and sent a bird called a dove to find dry land. It returned to the ark because there wasn’t a dry place to land.
● A while later, Noah sent the dove a second time. This time the dove returned holding an olive branch. This meant the dove had found a tree growing on the land.
● Noah released the dove a third time. The dove did not come back to the ark because it had found a nice, safe place to live!
● God told Noah that it was now safe to leave the ark.
● The ark door opened, and Noah, his family, and all of the animals walked out.
● The first thing Noah did was gather rocks to build an altar.
● At the altar, Noah thanked and worshiped God for protecting them.
● Then, God put a rainbow in the sky and promised Noah that He would never destroy the living things on the earth with a flood again.
● Every time you see a rainbow in the sky, remember that God protects us and always keeps His promises!
● Like Noah, you stay safe when you obey God!
So let’s choose to obey God and His Word. Let’s walk closely with Him to receive His protection and promises—just like Noah!
Object to Go
- Small tree branch with leaves
- Optional: Tree Branch image (provided)
Hold up the tree branch or show the tree branch image. Lead a short discussion with the following comments and questions:
● What do you think this was connected to? A tree.
● Have you ever seen fruit growing on a tree; if so, what kind? Apples, peaches, lemons, bananas, oranges, lemons, limes, coconuts, etc.
● Raise your hand if you have ever tried to climb a tree. Children respond.
● Which robot do you think climbs a tree in today’s video—Gizmo, Gears, Rig, or Widget? Children guess.
● Those are good guesses! Let’s watch the video now to find out!
Leave the question unanswered until it is revealed in the video.
Today we are going to catch up with Rig the robot, who is having fun playing in the park. The not-so-good news is that Rig has some visitors named Grabber and Doodad, two robots who don’t always obey the rules!
Play Video (Super Gizmo and the Forbidden Tree)
Super Gizmo and the Forbidden Tree
Video Discussion
● Who guessed that Rig was the robot that climbed the tree? Children respond.
● What game was Rig playing in the park? Basketball.
● Where were the two robots who called to Rig? In a tree.
● What did they tell Rig he would be if he climbed the tree? Cool.
● How did Rig know that it was wrong to climb the tree? There was a sign that said not to. It was against the rules.
● Who came to rescue the robots? Super Gizmo.
● What fell on top of Gizmo? The tree.
It is always a good choice to obey the rules that God gives us and the directions that adults, like our parents and teachers, give us.
Rules may not always be fun or easy to follow, but they are given to help us and keep us safe!
Verse to GO!
- Superbook GizmoGo! "A Lesson in Obedience" on DVD or in Superbook Academy
- Bible or the Superbook Bible App
Deuteronomy 5:33: (NLT)
Optional: Show the memory verse presentation ( the complete verse rather than the abbreviated version here).
Verse to Go
Let’s say our memory verse together while we do some actions.
Have the children stand in a row. Lead the children in repeating
the phrases and imitating the motions.
Stay on the path… Point at the floor directly in front of you.
That the Lord… Raise one hand and point to the sky.
Your God… Raise the other hand and point to the sky, so both hands are raised.
Has commanded you... Cup both hands around your mouth as if to shout.
To follow… March in place.
Note: Some preschool children may not be able to memorize the entire SuperVerse. They may simply repeat it with you. Be sure all children understand its meaning.
Prayer Time
Close the lesson in a simple prayer to encourage the children to always cheerfully obey God and others who love and care for us, like parents, family members, teachers, and other trusted adults.
For example: Dear God, thank You for giving Noah instructions to follow to build the ark. Thank You for giving us instructions in the Bible so we can obey everything that You say to do. Help us to also obey others who love and care for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
Music Time
Obey
The lyrics and chords for this song are found in the Resources section.
Create your own motions for the song or use the suggested motions for the chorus as seen in the Quantum Karaoke “Obey” under Resources or under “Extras! in the DVD main menu.
Play the video song and teach the chorus and motions of “Obey” to your students.
Bible Story and Resolution
Obey, Obey… Walk in place
I want to go God’s way… Raise both arms and point to the sky.
The children may want to imitate the robots' and Miss Tina’s motions during the verses of the song or dance and move freestyle!

OPTIONAL TAKE-HOME TRADING CARD:
Optional: Hand out GizmoGO! trading cards for NOAH and the ARK, one per child. These are available for purchase under Products. Explain to the children that there is a different trading card for each of the three lessons, so if they come back to Sunday school each week, they can collect all three! (Last time was the MISS TINA card, and the next time will be the QUANTUM HOTEL OBEDIENCE card!)
