Leader Introduction
Welcome students as they arrive with their parents.
OPTIONAL: As they arrive, play the song “Humble More.”
As the bots report to receive their software updates, Miss Tina receives a mysterious message to call an unknown phone number. What happens next is chaos as a vortex of pure energy appears with a flying house spinning inside! When Gears figures out the calculations to free the house from the vortex, he can’t stop talking about his accomplishment. Listening to Gears’ prideful boasts prompts Miss Tina to share the Bible story about Saul meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus. Saul was a prideful Pharisee who was humbled by Jesus and transformed into a bold preacher of the Gospel—the very message he had worked tirelessly to stop from spreading! Children will learn the importance of being humble: to care about the needs of other people and not to think you’re more important than anyone else.
*Scripture is quoted from the New Living Translation unless noted.
Optional Opening Game
- Sign Pages (4)
- Painter's tape or masking tape
- Cardstock, four pages
- Scissors
Note: If time is short, skip this activity or save it for the end.
Make one copy each of the four signs in color or black and white and on cardstock.
Tape each sign to a different wall in the room.
Select a leader or an older child to be Saul. Have Saul stand in the center of the room and introduce him/her to the class.
In today’s Bible story, a man named Saul hunts for people to arrest them. We will find out why Saul does this a little later. In this game, you will try to be as quiet as you can as you move to one of the four signs and stand or sit beside it.
Let’s name the number and the animal that is on each sign. Stand beside each sign and ask the children what the number and animal is on the sign.
Here’s how the game works. Saul will close his/her eyes and slowly count aloud to five. While Saul counts, you quietly sneak around and quickly move to one of the signs. You choose which one; it doesn’t matter what sign anyone else chooses.
When Saul is finished counting, with eyes still closed, Saul will shout, “I think someone is hiding at sign number _____.” (1 Lion, 2 Dove, 3 Horse, 4 Lamb). You never know which sign Saul will say!
Everyone hiding by the sign Saul calls out is caught! But that’s okay; everyone just keeps playing. Let’s play two practice rounds to make sure everyone understands the game. Play as many rounds as time allows.
Optional: Play as before but players who are “caught” by Saul must sit out for one round and then reenter the game for the next round.
Conclusion: That was a fun game and you were very good at sneaking around quietly.
Now, it’s time to watch our first video to find out what Miss Tina and the bots are up to at Quantum Labs today!

A big part of being humble is to admit when you are wrong or that you made a mistake. Is it easy to do that? No.
When we admit our sins to God and ask for forgiveness, will He forgive us? Yes.
When we admit our mistakes to our friends and family and ask them to forgive us, what will they do? Forgive us.
It is hard to admit we’re wrong because we may feel ashamed, but then it feels so good to be forgiven!
Object to GO!
If you don’t have a pair of children’s sunglasses, make a copy of the Children’s Sunglasses Image in color or black and white.
If possible, wear the sunglasses or hold the glasses or image up and discuss it using the questions and comments below. Adjust the dialogue accordingly.
● Look perplexed. Why is it so dark in this room? You have sunglasses on.
● Remove the glasses. Oh, thank you, that’s better now!
● Do you normally wear sunglasses inside or outside? Outside.
● Why would you want to wear sunglasses outside? To help you see when the sun is bright, to protect your eyes.
● Raise your hand if you have ever worn sunglasses. Children respond.
● The sun is really bright and we should never stare at it to protect our eyes. In today’s Bible story, someone saw a very, very bright light. Can you guess where the light came from? Children respond.
● Let’s watch our video to find out the answer.

Bible Story
Saul
Text: Acts 9:1-19
In today’s video, we will see what happens to a man who is surrounded by a light that is brighter than the sun!
Teaching Time
- Sheet of paper
- Rubber band or 12-inch piece of string
- Mailing envelope
- Chair
- Actors: Jesus (leader off stage), Saul, two men (traveling with Saul), Ananias, high priest
- Optional: costume beards and headwraps for one or more characters
- Bible or Superbook Bible App
Note: Save the props for Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 so children can act out the story again.
Make a scroll by rolling both ends of the paper (lengthwise) to meet in the middle of the sheet. Hold the two rolls in place with a rubber band or string.
Place the chair to the side of the performance area.
Assist the actors with costumes and props as necessary.
Slowly read the Bible story as outlined below. Pause at the bold text to direct actors.
Place the chair to one side of the presentation area.
● Saul enters. A long time ago, there was a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus.
● Saul was a Pharisee. These Jewish leaders were trained to know the Jewish Law. Saul opens the scroll and pretends to study it.
● Pharisees thought the rules of the Jewish Law were more important than people.
● When Jesus healed a man who was blind on a holy day, the Pharisees were mad instead of being glad because it broke one of their laws. Saul looks up from the scroll with an angry scowl.
● They were jealous because so many people loved Jesus and followed Him. Saul clenches his hands into fists and looks angry.
● The high priest enters holding the envelope. Saul knew something had to be done about Jesus!
● Saul went to the high priest. He asked for a letter to take to the Jewish leaders in the city of Damascus. Saul walks over to the priest and puts his hand out. The high priest nods yes and hands Saul the envelope.
● This letter gave Saul permission to find Christians and arrest them.
● Saul’s two men enter. Saul and his men were ready to travel to Damascus.
● Since it was such a long trip, Saul and his men probably rode horses. The three actors pretend to trot or canter in place.
● Saul and his men got closer and closer to Damascus. Then suddenly something very unusual happened!
● A light appeared from heaven. It was so bright that Saul and his men stopped and covered their eyes. Saul fell to the ground. The three men put their arms over their eyes and Saul slowly lowers to the ground.
● Jesus off stage, booming voice: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting (hurting) me?”
● Saul answered, “Who are You, Lord?” Saul repeats.
● Jesus answered Saul: Jesus off stage with booming voice: “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting (hurting). Now, get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.”
● The men with Saul stood and could not say a word. They heard the voice but saw no one. Men look back and forth.
● Saul stood up and when he opened his eyes, he was blind! Saul puts hands out and feels around in front of him.
● The men with Saul took him by the hand to a house in Damascus. Each man takes a hand of Saul and slowly leads him to the chair. Saul sits down. The two men exit.
● Saul stayed in the house for three days and did not eat or drink while he prayed to God and waited. Saul looks toward heaven and puts his hands in prayer.
● While Saul waited, God spoke to a Christian man named Ananias. He told Ananias to go to Saul and to pray for him so Saul could see again. Ananias walks to Saul, stands behind the chair and puts hands lightly on Saul’s shoulders.
● Ananias told Saul Jesus sent him so he could see and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
● Instantly Saul stood up. He could see again! Saul stands up excited, looks around,
● Saul was then baptized in water, and he ate food to be strong again.
Saul was no longer a man filled with too much pride. He was now filled with humbleness and love for Jesus. Instead of hunting for Christians to arrest, Saul looked for people to tell about Jesus so their lives could be changed too!

Proverbs: 11:2 (CEV)
Play Video (Verse to Go)
Verse to Go
Today’s Bible memory verse is Proverbs 11:25. Say the memory verse slowly.
“Too much pride can put you to shame. It's wiser to be humble” Proverbs 11:2 (CEV)
Now, let’s learn the first part of the verse with some motions.
Stand facing the children and lead them in to repeat phrases and imitate the motions.
Too much pride… Tilt head up with an arrogant look while pointing index fingers to self.
Can put you to shame… Make a sad face, drop hands and lower head to look down.
Repeat slowly a few more times.
In the video at Quantum Labs, who had too much pride? Gears and Professor Bumble.
Yes, after hearing Miss Tina share the Bible story, both Gears and Professor Bumble felt ashamed. But, when they admitted they were wrong and said they were sorry, both were forgiven and learned from their mistakes, so they became wiser!
Saul was filled with pride as he traveled to Damascus. Then after he met Jesus, his heart was changed and he was filled with humbleness. Saul knew he was wrong about Jesus and he had a lot of things to learn about living for God and His Son!
Optional: Make sure the children understand what pride and shame means.
Too much pride can lead us to think we are more important than others.
Shame is feeling embarrassed or guilty about something.
Jesus doesn’t want us to be prideful or ashamed! We know that Jesus is perfect, yet He is humble. All of us make mistakes and are not perfect, so that reminds us to stay humble. And Jesus will forgive all our sins when we ask, so we do not need to be ashamed. Instead, we can be humble and happy, knowing that He is our Savior!
Note: Preschool children may not be able to memorize the entire verse. They may simply repeat it with you. Be sure all children understand its meaning.
Prayer Time
Close the lesson in a simple prayer to encourage the children to be humble.
For example: Dear Jesus, thank You for giving us the Bible so we can learn to be humble like You. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Music Time
