Leader Introduction
Welcome students as they arrive with their parents.
OPTIONAL: As they arrive, play the song “Humble More.”
Today’s Bible story reinforces and expands the theme of Lesson 1 about Saul on the road to Damascus. Saul believed he was doing God’s will by hunting for Christians and arresting them. Saul quickly found out how wrong he was when Jesus revealed Himself to Saul. This encounter changed Saul’s heart and life forever.
Back at Quantum Labs, Tina is in disbelief about her dental diagnosis and is staying as far away from Dr. DentaBot as she can! Will she remain in hiding or admit her mistake and finally get that cavity filled? Children continue to learn the importance of being humble: to care about the needs of other people and not to think you’re more important than anyone else.
*Scripture is quoted from the New Living Translation except as noted.
Optional Opening Game
- Two Character Card Pages
- Dr. DentaBot Page
- Cardstock
Make one copy of the two Character Card Pages (with 8 characters total) on cardstock in color or black and white. If there are more than 8 children in your class, make additional copies so each child can have one character card. However, only give out one card for Miss Tina to the class.
Make one copy of the Dr. DentaBot Page in color or black and white.
Have children sit in a large circle on the floor or in chairs.
Hold up the Dr. DentaBot card. Does anyone remember who this is? Children respond.
Doctor DentaBot is a robot dentist you may have seen before. It is very important that he speaks with Miss Tina, but he has to find her first!
Hold up each of the 8 character cards and ask the group to give the character’s name.
Choose a child volunteer to be Dr. DentaBot. Have the doctor stand a few feet away from the circle of children and turn his/her back to them. Have the children be as quiet as possible. Give one character card to each player in in the circle. Each player can sit on face-down card or hold the card face-down so it can’t be seen.
Have “Dr. DentaBot” turn around and tap the shoulder of a player who he/she thinks is hiding the Miss Tina Card. The chosen player stands up, shows the card, and says aloud the character’s name. If the player does not know who is on the card, the class may say the name aloud together.
If the card is not Miss Tina, the doctor gets a second turn to find her. After the second time, if Miss Tina isn’t found, the cards are gathered, shuffled and a different Dr. DentaBot is chosen to play.
The cards are given to each player in the circle again and play resumes.
Play until each child has a chance to be Dr. DentaBot or until it is time to move to the next activity.
Optional:
For smaller classes remove one or more character cards, except Miss Tina.
For larger classes, use two doctors instead of one.

Text: Acts 9:1-9
Have the children sit in chairs or on the floor.
Encourage children to participate as much as possible as you tell the Bible story from the bullets. Emphasize the words in bold text. The words correspond to an action or word for the children to imitate. Vary your facial expression, voice, and volume level to hold children’s attention and interest.
· A long time ago, there was a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus.
● Saul was a Pharisee. The Pharisees read the Jewish Law and knew all that was written in it. Hold an imaginary scroll up then move head back and forth, line by line to read.
● The Pharisees thought the rules of the Jewish Law were more important than people.
● So, the Pharisees were mad instead of being glad when Jesus healed a man on a holy day. Shake head and move index finger back and forth for no.
● Saul knew something had to be done about Jesus because so many people loved
Jesus and believed what He taught. Clench hands into fists and look angry.
● Saul went to the high priest. Walk in place. Children stand and walk in place.
● He asked the high priest for a letter to take to the Jewish leaders in the city of Damascus. Hold out your hand.
● The high priest agreed to give Saul the letter to take on his trip to Damascus. Nod head yes. Stretch arm out and point, “go”.
● The letter gave Saul permission to search for Christians and to arrest them. Put a hand above eyes and move head side to side to search.
● Saul and his men began their journey to Damascus.
● Since it was such a long trip, Saul and his men probably rode horses. Say “Giddy up” and pretend to trot or canter in place.
● As Saul and his men got closer to Damascus. A bright light appeared in the sky. It was so bright that Saul and the men stopped and covered their eyes. Stop trotting and cover eyes.
● Saul fell to the ground. Slowly lower to the ground.
● Then the men heard a loud voice but didn’t see anyone! Slowly in a bold voice have children repeat after you. “Saul…, Saul…, why are you… hurting Me?”
● Who do you think was talking to Saul? Jesus.
● It was Jesus. He was talking to Saul from heaven!
● Saul answered, “Who are You, Lord?”
● Jesus then answered Saul (in a deep voice) “I am Jesus, the one you are hurting. Now, get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.”
● The men with Saul stood and could not say a word. They heard the voice but saw no one. Put a hand above eyes and move head side to side to search.
● Saul stood up but when he opened his eyes, he was blind! Children stand up and put a hand over their eyes.
● The men with Saul took him by the hand and led him to a house in Damascus. Children walk in place with one hand outstretched in front of them.
● Saul stayed in the house for three days and did not eat or drink while he prayed to God and waited for instructions. Children sit on floor and individually put hands together in prayer.
● While Saul waited, God spoke to a Christian man named Ananias. He told Ananias to go to Saul and to pray for him so Saul could see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
● Ananias was surprised at what God asked him to do! Saul could arrest Ananias! Open mouth and place hands on cheeks in surprise.
● Do you think Ananias was too afraid to go see Saul, or did he trust and obey God? Ananias trusted God and went to Saul.
● Yes, Ananias trusted God! He went to Saul, laid his hands on him and prayed for him so he could see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Hold arms out in front and look up.
● When Ananias prayed, Saul’s eyes were opened. He stood up and could see again! Stand up and jump with hands in air and look around,
● Saul was then baptized in water, and he ate food to be strong again.
God healed Saul’s eyes and changed his heart in an instant! Saul was no longer filled with too much pride. He was now filled with love for Jesus and served Him for the rest of his life. Saul traveled everywhere telling others about how Jesus died to save them from their sins.
Optional Review Questions
Why did Saul want to go to Damascus? To find Christians and arrest them.
Who spoke to Ananias and told him to pray for Saul? God.
What happened to Saul after Ananias prayed for him? He could see again, He was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Object to Go
- Toothbrush
- Optional: Toothbrush Image (provided)
Hold up the toothbrush or image. Lead a discussion with the comments and questions below:
● Would you use this to brush your hair? No, it is a toothbrush to brush your teeth.
● Yes, I was being silly. What do you put on the brush before you brush your teeth? Toothpaste.
● God gave us our teeth to chew food. We should always take care of what God gives us. Why do we brush our teeth? To keep them clean and healthy.
● Who do we visit to check our teeth? The dentist.
● In our game, Dr. Dentabot needed to find Miss Tina. What do you think he needed to tell her; that she needed a new toothbrush, that she had a cavity, or that he needed to cancel her appointment for her teeth cleaning? Children guess.
● Now, let’s watch the video to see if anyone guessed correctly.
Leave the question unanswered until it is revealed in the video.

Video Discussion
● Raise your hand if you guessed Miss Tina had a cavity. Children respond.
● How long had Dr. DentaBot been looking for Miss Tina? All summer.
● Where was Miss Tina hiding when the dentist talked to the robots? Behind a chair.
● Did Miss Tina believe she had a cavity? No.
● What couldn’t Miss Tina admit? That she was wrong.
● Which robot reminded Miss Tina that God wants us to be humble and admit when we are wrong? Gears.
● What did Miss Tina finally decide to do? Apologize to Dr. DentaBot and let him fill her cavity.
No one knows everything, and we all make mistakes. When a mistake is made, it is always best to be humble and admit it, and to ask forgiveness. Being prideful does not please God or people. Being humble is always the right choice!

Proverbs 11:25 (MSG)
Verse to Go
Today’s Bible memory verse is Proverbs 11:2. Say the memory verse slowly.
“Too much pride can put you to shame. It's wiser to be humble.” Proverbs 11:2
Now, let’s practice the first part of the verse we learned the last time.
If you were not here before, you can learn it today!
Stand facing the children and lead them in to repeat phrases and imitate the motions.
Too much pride… Tilt head up with an arrogant look while pointing index fingers to self.
Can put you to shame… Make a sad face, drop hands and lower head to look down.
Repeat slowly a few more times.
Now, let’s learn the second part of the verse together.
It's wiser… point to head and smile.
To be humble… place hands together in front of you and lower head to look at hands as in prayer.
In the Bible story, who had too much pride? Saul.
Saul was filled with pride as he traveled to Damascus. Then after he met Jesus, his heart was changed, and he was filled with humbleness. Saul was also filled with God’s wisdom when he believed that Jesus was God’s Son. The wisest thing all of us can do is to humbly listen to Jesus and serve Him!
Optional: Make sure the children understand what pride and shame means.
Too much pride can lead us to think we are more important than others.
Shame is feeling embarrassed or guilty about something.
Jesus doesn’t want us to be prideful or ashamed! We know that Jesus is perfect, yet He is humble. All of us make mistakes and are not perfect, so that reminds us to stay humble. And Jesus will forgive all our sins when we ask, so we do not need to be ashamed. Instead, we can be humble and happy, knowing that He is our Savior!
Note: Preschool children may not be able to memorize the entire verse. They may simply repeat it with you. Be sure all children understand its meaning.
Prayer Time
Close the lesson in a simple prayer to encourage the children to use wisdom.
For example: Dear God, help us to be wise and choose to be humble instead of prideful. Jesus, thank You for showing us how to be humble and serve others. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
Music Time
