Leader Introduction
Rig makes an amazing catch to win the big game for his team and the crowd goes wild. Everyone seems to be celebrating—everyone but Rig. Miss Tina and the other robots find Rig in the locker room by himself with a very sad look on his face. Rig tells Miss Tina that after his big catch to win the game, he saw his foot was out of bounds. The catch should not count, so his team should not have won the game. Rig knows he should do the right thing and tell the truth. The problem is that he is scared because the coaches, team and the fans will be mad. Miss Tina reminds Rig that God will give him the courage to do the right thing. After Rig reveals the truth to everyone, he feels much better; so much better that even though his team lost, he feels like a winner!
Today’s Bible story reinforces and expands the lesson from last time about God speaking to Moses through a burning bush. God calls Moses to free the Israelites from Pharaoh in Egypt. However, Moses feels that he isn’t the man for the job. He makes excuse after excuse why he cannot do what God wants him to do. God shows extreme patience with Moses. He performs miracles and even sends Moses’ brother, Aaron, to go with Moses to Egypt. Finally, Moses has the courage to do the right thing and chooses to obey God.
In this lesson, we will learn that God provides help and strength to give us the courage to do the right thing; even everyday things like telling the truth
Welcome students as they arrive with their parents.
OPTIONAL: As they arrive, play the song “Be Courageous”
Bible Story and Resolution
Opening Game
- Card Page
- Cardstock (ten or more sheets, see below)
- Scissors
Depending on class size, make ten or more copies of the Card Page on cardstock in color or black and white
Cut the page in half and then cut out the snake and sheep cards.
What did Moses’ staff turn into when God did a miracle for Moses? A snake.
Shepherds have to protect their sheep from snakes!
Hold up a sheep and a snake card. In this game, you will take turns turning over a card to find all of the snakes so the sheep can be safe!
Line up the cards face-down on the floor or table.
Give each child a chance to turn over one card.
If the card is a sheep – turn it face down again. The card remains in the game.
If the card is a snake, the card is removed from the game.
Play until all the snakes are removed and the sheep are safe!
OPTIONAL (to make the game easier):
If the card is a sheep, leave it in place, face-up.
Object to GO!
- Ball (medium size inflatable ball) or image.
Toss the ball up and down to yourself a few times while leading a short discussion with the following comments and questions:
● What is this called? Children respond.
● Raise your hand if you have ever thrown or caught a ball. Children respond.
● What else can you do with this ball? Bounce it, roll it. (Roll the ball and then bounce and catch it). You are right; balls are fun!
● Which robot do you think will catch a ball in the video today, Gizmo, Gears, Rig or Widget? Children guess.
● Good guesses! Let’s watch the video now to find out!
Leave the question unanswered until it is revealed in the video.

Rig Wins Big
Today we are going to join Miss Tina and the robots at a big game.
Optional Discussion following the video.
● Hold the ball from Object to GO! I think we can answer the question now. Who caught the ball in the big game? Rig!
● Why was Rig sad after catching the ball to win the game? He knew he stepped out of bounds; the catch didn’t count.
● Why was he scared to tell the truth about what happened? He knew that people would be mad at him if they lost the game.
● Who gave Rig the courage to do the right thing and tell the truth? God.
● How did Rig feel after he told the truth? He felt better, He felt like he had won even though the team lost the game.
Even if no one else sees what we do, God does—and He will give us the courage to do the right thing, even when it seems scary.
Today’s lesson is about courage. Courage is trusting God to help you do something that may seem hard (difficult) or scary.
Rig had the courage to tell the truth.

Bible Story and Resolution
The children may also want to dance and move to the verses of the song.
Teaching Time
- Toy stuffed, plastic or rubber snake, as in Lesson 1 and Lesson 2
- Walking cane, walking stick or yardstick for Moses' staff, as in Lesson 1 and Lesson 2
- Bible or Superbook Bible App
Tell the Bible story slowly using the bullets provided. Be expressive! Bring excitement and interest to the story by varying your facial expression, voice, and volume level.
Pause at any bold text. Bold text indicates that it is time to demonstrate an action or say something for the children to imitate. These actions are in italics at the end of a bullet. Allow time for the children to respond.
When God speaks, use a deep but not scary voice.
● There was a man named Moses who lived in the desert and watched over his flock of sheep. Hold the walking stick or cane in one hand. Place your other hand over your eyes as if to block the sun and look into the distance
● Suddenly a bush began to burn in the desert. Stand up, hold arms out to side and shake both hands
● Moses was surprised; he had never seen anything like this before and he was afraid. Make a surprised face
● The bush burned brightly with fire, but it did not burn up! Hold hands over eyes to block the light
● God was speaking to Moses through the burning bush! Make a surprised face
● God told Moses to take off his shoes because the ground was holy. Pretend to take both shoes off your feet
● Then God said, “I see what Pharaoh is doing to my people, the Israelites. Pharoah makes them work very hard, and they are tired and hurting!” Moses was happy that God wanted to help the Israelites. Make a happy face
● God said: “I am going to send you to free the Israelites so they can live in a new land!”
● Moses was afraid. He wanted God to send someone, but NOT HIM! Make a sad face.
● God said, “I will go with you to Pharaoh; you will not be alone!”
● Moses shook his head no. He did not think anyone would believe that God sent him. Shake your head no
● God said, “Moses, put your staff on the ground.”
● Moses put his staff on the ground. The leader places the staff on the ground
● God then did a miracle to give Moses courage. The staff turned into a living snake, right before his eyes! Pick up the staff and place the snake on the ground.
Make a hissing sound for the children to imitate
● Moses was STILL scared because he did not think he could talk very well to people. Make a sad face
● God told Moses that He created people with mouths to talk and ears to listen. He would teach Moses what to say. Point to mouth with one finger on one hand and to ears with one finger of the other hand
● But Moses shook his head no again. He was still afraid! Once more, Moses asked God to send someone else! Make a sad face and shake your head no
● Then God told Moses that his brother Aaron would talk for him. Now Moses FINALLY had the courage to go to Pharaoh. Make a happy face. Have children look at each other and smile
● Moses told the Israelite people that God cared about them and wanted to free them from the hard work that Pharaoh made them do.
● The Israelite people jumped up and down because they were so happy. Then they bowed down and worshiped God! Jump up and down, then bow down
● Even though Moses had been afraid, God was patient with Moses and gave him the strength and courage to obey.
● Raise your hand if you believe God is always with you! Children respond
● It is true, we are never alone. God will never leave us! And because He is always with us, we do not need to be afraid! This is God’s promise to us in today’s Verse to Go! Jump up and down with arms in the air to celebrate and thank God!
Verse to GO!
- Superbook GizmoGO! "A Lesson in Courage" on DVD or in Superbook Academy
- Bible or Superbook Bible App
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT)
Optional: Show the memory verse presentation at 10:00 of the video. (which is the complete verse, rather than the abbreviated version here).
Raise your hand if you remember when Gizmo and Widget showed us the Bible verse in the video. Children respond.
Can anyone say the first part of the Verse to GO that we learned last time? So be strong and courageous.
Can anyone say the second part of the Verse to GO? Do not be afraid… God will go ahead of you.
Today we will learn the third part of the Verse to GO. God will not fail you or abandon you.
We may try to help someone but find out that we just can’t do it. This is not true with God. He never fails to do what He chooses to do. Nothing can stop Him.
The word “abandon” is a big word. It means to leave someone or to turn your back on someone. God will never, ever leave us or turn His back on us. We can trust in Him to keep every promise and to do what He says He will do—every time.
Suggestion: Teach the verse with the motions below to help kids remember the words in the verse.
God will not fail you… Point to the sky and shake your head no.
Or abandon you… Turn around and face the opposite direction. (To represent turning your back on someone).
God is always with us; we are never alone. Sometimes it can be hard to tell the truth, but God is with us He will give us the courage to do it.
Note: Preschool children may not be able to memorize the entire SuperVerse. They may simply repeat it with you. Be sure all children understand its meaning.
Prayer Time
Close the lesson in a simple prayer to encourage the children to thank God for giving us the strength and courage to be able to do the right thing even when it may be scary to do so—like in Rig’s case, telling the truth.
For example: Dear God, thank You for giving Moses the courage to do the right thing and obey You. Please give us Your strength and courage to do the right thing, like telling the truth, even when it may be scary. Thank You for always being with us no matter where we go. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

As children color, review today’s lesson using the discussion points below:
● Why did Moses want God to send someone else to Pharaoh? He was afraid.
● What are the Israelite people doing in this picture? Worshiping God.
● What did Moses and Aaron say that made them so happy and thankful? God cared about them; God would set them free.
● What did God send Aaron to do? Speak to Pharaoh for Moses.
● What does God give us courage to do? To do the right thing, like telling the truth.
