Leader Introduction
Welcome students as they arrive with their parents.
OPTIONAL: As they arrive, play the song “Obey.”
Today’s Bible story reinforces and expands on the previous lessons about when Noah was commanded by God to build an ark to keep Noah, his family, and the animals safe during the world-wide flood. Noah was obedient and did everything as God commanded him.
At Quantum Labs, Gears is assembling a new hover drone and doesn’t think he needs help—even from the instructions! Is Gears correct, or will he be sorry? Today’s lesson is about obedience. Obedience means to cheerfully do what you are told, right away. This lesson focuses on the importance of following instructions.
*Scripture is quoted from the New Living Translation except as noted.
Optional Opening Game
- Dove Page
- Paper Plates, 2 per child
- One beige or brown bed sheet, bath towel, table cloth or rug (substitute a color if necessary)
- One blue bed sheet, bath towel, table cloth or rug (substitute a color if necessary)
- Glue or glue stick
- Painter's tape or masking tape
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Optional: green crayons or markers
Make one copy of the Dove Page for each child in color or black and white.
Optional: If using black-and-white copies, color the branch green.
Cut out the two dove circles from each page.
Place the face (front) of two plates together and use four tape strips to attach the plates together to make a throwing disc.
Glue a dove image on the back center of one plate. Glue the image of the dove with an olive branch on the center of the opposite side of the disc. The disc will have a different dove on each side.
Repeat for each disc.
Lay a blue sheet on the floor to be the water.
Lay a brown sheet (land) on the floor about ten feet from the blue sheet.
Write the name of each child on a dove throwing disc.
Noah, his family and the animals stayed in the ark during the flood. When the rain stopped, Noah sent a dove from the ark to look for dry land. Noah did this two times. The second time, the dove returned with an olive branch because it found dry land. In this game, you are going to pretend you are Noah.
Hold up a dove throwing disc and show children the image. You will send this dove to find land by tossing it to the brown sheet. Demonstrate how to toss the disc to land.
Hold up the dove throwing disc and show children the image with the olive branch. Then you will send the dove with an olive branch back to the ark in the water by tossing it to the blue sheet. Demonstrate how to toss the disc to the ark in the water.
You will work together as a team to score as many points as you can. You score one point each time a disc touches the land or the water.
One player at a time takes a turn. Each player stands at the edge of the blue/water sheet and tosses a disc toward the brown/land sheet. A point is scored if any disc part touches the brown/land sheet.
Players then move to the brown/water sheet and toss a disc toward the blue/water sheet.
Players will work as a team to score as many points as possible.
Play for a certain number of turns for each player or for a set amount of time. Play additional rounds to try for a higher score.
Optional:
· Increase or decrease the throwing distance as desired. Add sheets, towels, tablecloths or rugs to increase the “ark” or “land” areas to make the game easier.
· For an added challenge, the dove with an olive branch must land face-up on the blue sheet, and the dove with no olive branch must land face-up on the brown sheet to score points.
· Give a dove plate to each child to take home with his/her name on it to remember the story of Noah’s obedience and that God protects us and always keeps His promises.
Conclusion: Noah obeyed all of God’s instructions before and after the flood so his family and the animals were protected by God.
Object to Go
- Printed Bible (Children's Bible is ideal)
- Optional: Bible Image (provided)
Show the Bible or hold up the image. Lead a discussion with the questions below:
· What is this book called? The Bible.
· Raise your hand if you have heard stories from the Bible. Children respond.
· The story of Noah is in the Bible. Can you name another Bible story? Children respond.
· In today’s video, someone at Quantum Labs is holding a Bible. Do you think it is Miss Tina, Professor Quantum, Widget, Rig, Gizmo, or Gears? Children respond.
· Let’s watch the video to find out who has a Bible!
Leave the question unanswered until it is revealed in the video.
Play Video (Hover Drone)
Hover Drone
After the video, ask the following discussion questions:
● What did Gears build? A drone, a hover drone
● What did Gears do with the instruction book? He threw it away.
● Why did Gears think he didn’t need the instructions? He had built many things before. He thought he could figure it out.
● What happened when Gears turned the Hover Drone on? It crashed and burned.
● Gizmo said we have an instruction book for life. What is the name of it? The Bible.
● Raise your hand if you guessed Gizmo had a Bible. Children respond.
● What is in the Bible? God’s Word, true stories, instructions for living.
The parts Gears didn’t use to build the drone were not extra! They were needed for it to fly and would have been used if Gears read the instructions. Gears learned that it is important to follow the instructions, even if you think you know what to do. Instructions help us do things the right way and also help keep us safe!
Video Lesson
Noah
In today’s Bible story video, God gave Noah instructions to build a huge boat, and Noah did everything he was commanded to do. Let’s see what happened after Noah built the boat.

Bible Story
Teaching Time
- Printed Bible and Superbook Bible App
- Dot to Dot Ark Page
- Brown crayon or marker
- Clipboard
Text: Genesis 6-9
Make two copies of the Dot-to-Dot Ark Page.
Clamp the two pages on the clipboard.
God saw that the people in the world were evil. They did not obey God and do what was good and right. When you don’t obey God, it is called sin.
Noah was different. He obeyed God and did what was right. God gave Noah instructions to build the ark so it would safely float in the water during the flood. Noah followed God’s instructions and built the boat exactly as God commanded. Because Noah followed God’s instructions, the boat worked perfectly and kept Noah, his family, and the animals safe in the flood.
I am going to count to three. Then you can stand and shout “Noah obeyed God!”
One, two, three! “Noah obeyed God!”
In the video we saw what happened when Gears built the drone. Do you remember the reason Gears said the drone didn’t work? He said Quantum Labs made a defective or bad product.
That was not true. Quantum Labs designed the drone to fly, not crash and burn! The reason it crashed was because Gears didn’t follow the instructions! He built it the way he wanted to instead of how Quantum Labs told him to.
Hold up the clip board so children can see the picture. Raise your hand if you have ever done a dot-to-dot picture. Children respond.
This is a picture of an ark like Noah built. I did a dot-to-dot picture a long time ago, so I know exactly what to do. Begin at any dot but number 1 and use the crayon to connect them randomly up, down and across so that the picture does not resemble an ark.
I’m done, that was easy! What do you think? Children respond.
Look at the picture. Oh, wait a minute, that doesn’t look like a boat. Whoever made this page didn’t do a good job! Wait, the instructions say to connect the dots in order from numbers 1-9. Oh, I guess I should have read the instructions first so could do it correctly!
Remove the top page to reveal the new page. Hold the clipboard so children can see the page.
Let’s try this again and follow the instructions! Start at the first dot and have the children count aloud with you as you connect the dots in order to make the ark.
Hold the page up. There… that’s better! It is always important to follow the instructions, especially when the instructions are in the Bible!
Hold up the Bible. In the video, Gizmo told Gears that the Bible is an instruction book for life.
The Bible gives us instructions for how to live our lives safely and in a way that pleases God. The Bible also tells us how to love, forgive and serve others so we can become more like Jesus.
It is important to obey all of God’s instructions in the Bible. But when we mess up, the Bible tells us that when we come to Him, He is faithful to forgive us – every time!
Let’s count aloud on our fingers to three, then stand and shout “Jesus always forgives me!”
Hold up one finger for each number. “One, two, three! Jesus always forgives me!”
Verse to GO!
- Bible or the Superbook Bible App
James 1:22 (NLT)
Today’s memory verse from the Bible is James 1:22:
But don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do what it says.
Let’s learn today’s memory verse together using some motions.
Have the children stand and lead them in repeating the phrases and imitating the motions.
But don’t… shake head no.
just listen to God’s Word… cup one hand behind your ear.
You must do... hold hands, palms out, in front of you. Wave hands side to side and wiggle fingers.
What it says… cup a hand around each side of mouth as if to shout.
Do this one more time then slowly say the entire verse together.
I am going to say the first part of the verse and let’s see if you can finish it.
But, don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must… do what it says.
Very good! Noah listened to God and followed His instructions. It is good to listen, but don’t stop there! You also need to obey!
Prayer Time
Close the lesson in a simple prayer to thank God for His presence in our lives.
For example: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the Bible with instructions to keep us safe and to help us make good choices to please You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Music Time
Obey
The lyrics and chords for this song are found in Resources.
Create your own motions for the song or use the suggested motions for the chorus as seen in the Quantum Karaoke “Obey” under Resources
Play the video song and teach the chorus and motions of “Obey” to your students.
Obey, Obey… Walk in place.
I want to go God’s way… Raise both arms and point to the sky.
The children may want to imitate the robots and Miss Tina’s motions during the verses of the song or dance and move freestyle!
Obey
Singing Activity
Singing Activity
Optional: Invite someone to play the guitar or piano and lead the children in singing this song about Noah to a familiar tune. (A good key for children’s voices on this song is G.)
“MY FRIEND NOAH HAD AN ARK” -- Lead the children in singing a song to the tune of “Old McDonald Had a Farm,” but change the words to be, “My friend Noah had an ark.” For each verse, have a different child suggest different animals to sing about, such as a chickens, sheep, cows, dogs and cats; then fill in the blanks with the appropriate sound that the animal makes.
My friend Noah had an ark, E-I-E-I-O.
And on that ark he had some ________ (chickens)
E-I-E-I-O.
With a ________ _________ (cluck, cluck) here,
And a ________ _________ (cluck, cluck) there,
Here a ___________ (cluck)
There a __________ (cluck)
Everywhere a ________ _________ (cluck, cluck).
My friend Noah had an ark, E-I-E-I-O.
The children may also want to dance and move to the verses of the song.
Take-Home Coloring Page
- Life Instruction Take-Home Coloring Page.
- Crayons or washable markers
The Take-Home Coloring Page located in Resources can be printed and given to students to color at the end of class if time, then to take home.
Print one page for each child plus extras.
Provide crayons or washable markers for children.
As children color, review today’s lesson using the discussion points below:
· What book is Gizmo holding? The Bible.
· What can we learn about in the Bible? We can learn about God and love for us. We can learn about Jesus, who died for us. We can learn about what is right and wrong,
· Why were there parts left over after Gears built the drone? He didn’t follow the instructions.
· Why is it important to follow all instructions? So we can do things correctly and safely.
· What does it mean to obey? To cheerfully do what you are told, right away.
Gears threw away the instructions that came in the box. The instructions were included to build the drone correctly and safely. Since Gears didn’t follow the instructions, the drone crashed and burned! Noah followed all of God’s instructions to build the ark. Because he did this, it was built correctly and it kept his family and the animals safe during the flood.
