SuperVerse
- Bibles or the Superbook Bible App
- Chalkboard and chalk, or whiteboard and marker
Write the SuperVerse on the board in five lines as shown:
- “Men of Galilee,” they said.
- “Why are you standing here staring into heaven?”
- “Jesus has been taken from you into heaven.”
- “But someday He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go!”
- Acts 1:11
Our SuperVerse today is Acts 1:11:
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go!”
Have the class say the SuperVerse together.
Try to imagine what that would be like. You are standing with Jesus and then He ascends into the clouds as you stand there! What would you think or feel?
They must have been staring in disbelief for quite some time, for the angels to ask why they were standing and staring! Do you think the disciples felt hopeless or even scared that Jesus was leaving them alone?
Do you think the disciples thought Jesus would come back during their lifetime?
It’s exciting to know that Jesus will come back to Earth again, and we will see Him face to face! Let’s say our SuperTruth together: “I will live my life knowing that Jesus will come again.”
Have children line up side by side, facing the board with the SuperVerse written on it. Group the boys together at one end of the line and the girls at the other end. The boys and girls will alternate shouting out the different lines of the verse and then everyone will shout aloud the scripture reference. Start by assigning the girls lines one and three and the boys lines two and four. If time permits, have the boys and girls trade lines and repeat the activity.
Note: If younger children are not able to memorize the entire SuperVerse, simply have them repeat it several times and be sure they understand its meaning.
