Teaching Time

Tell the Bible story slowly using the bullets provided. Be expressive! Bring excitement and interest to the story by varying your facial expression, voice, and volume level. 

Pause at any bold text. Bold text indicates that it is time to demonstrate an action or say something for the children to imitate. These actions are in italics at the end of a bullet. Allow time for the children to respond.    

When God speaks, use a deep but not scary voice.  

●      There was a man named Moses who lived in the desert and watched over his flock of sheep. Hold the walking stick or cane in one hand. Place your other hand over your eyes as if to block the sun and look into the distance

●      Suddenly a bush began to burn in the desert. Stand up, hold arms out to side and shake both hands

●      Moses was surprised; he had never seen anything like this before and he was afraid. Make a surprised face   

●      The bush burned brightly with fire, but it did not burn up! Hold hands over eyes to block the light

●      God was speaking to Moses through the burning bush! Make a surprised face

●      God told Moses to take off his shoes because the ground was holy. Pretend to take both shoes off your feet

●      Then God said, “I see what Pharaoh is doing to my people, the Israelites. Pharoah makes them work very hard, and they are tired and hurting!” Moses was happy that God wanted to help the Israelites.  Make a happy face

●      God said: “I am going to send you to free the Israelites so they can live in a new land!”   

●      Moses was afraid. He wanted God to send someone, but NOT HIM!  Make a sad face.

●      God said, “I will go with you to Pharaoh; you will not be alone!”   

●      Moses shook his head no. He did not think anyone would believe that God sent him. Shake your head no  

●      God said, “Moses, put your staff on the ground.”

●      Moses put his staff on the ground. The leader places the staff on the ground

●      God then did a miracle to give Moses courage. The staff turned into a living snake, right before his eyes! Pick up the staff and place the snake on the ground.

Make a hissing sound for the children to imitate

●      Moses was STILL scared because he did not think he could talk very well to people. Make a sad face

●      God told Moses that He created people with mouths to talk and ears to listen. He would teach Moses what to say. Point to mouth with one finger on one hand and to ears with one finger of the other hand  

●      But Moses shook his head no again. He was still afraid! Once more, Moses asked God to send someone else!  Make a sad face and shake your head no

●      Then God told Moses that his brother Aaron would talk for him. Now Moses FINALLY had the courage to go to Pharaoh. Make a happy face. Have children look at each other and smile 

●      Moses told the Israelite people that God cared about them and wanted to free them from the hard work that Pharaoh made them do. 

●      The Israelite people jumped up and down because they were so happy. Then they bowed down and worshiped God! Jump up and down, then bow down

●      Even though Moses had been afraid, God was patient with Moses and gave him the strength and courage to obey.

●      Raise your hand if you believe God is always with you! Children respond

●      It is true, we are never alone. God will never leave us! And because He is always with us, we do not need to be afraid! This is God’s promise to us in today’s Verse to Go!  Jump up and down with arms in the air to celebrate and thank God!
