Optional Object Talk
· Magnifying Glass or Magnifier Phone App
• Penny
• Table
Place the penny on the table.
What is this coin? A penny.
Yes. Have 2-3 children gather around the table. Explain that all will have a chance to look.
Hold the magnifying glass over the penny and slowly raise it to make the penny appear bigger. Repeat until all the children have observed the coin. Note: If using a magnifier app on your phone, zoom out to make the penny appear bigger.
How did the penny look different in the magnifying glass? Bigger, larger.
Hold the penny up for all to see. Yes, it looked bigger, but is it really bigger? No.
No, the penny only looked bigger through the magnifying glass even though it was the same size.
Rig was usually humble and kind. He cared about other people’s feelings. But after he became popular, he saw himself differently. He was filled with so much pride that he saw himself as bigger – like the penny in the magnifying glass! He saw himself as more important than other people, even his teammates!
After talking with Miss Tina, Rig realized that he was filled with pride and that He was wrong to think he was more important or bigger than other people. He had forgotten to be humble and this made him unhappy. Rig did the right thing and said he was sorry. It’s good to have humble Rig back, isn’t it!
