Object Lesson
- A/C power strip
- Plastic outlet safety cover
- Table
- Wall receptacle
- Small desk lamp or electric candle
Place the outlet strip and lamp on the table near a wall receptacle. Place the outlet safety cover over one outlet in the wall receptacle.
Stand behind the table as you talk. Let’s say the SuperTruth together: “God enables us to do great things.”
What does it mean when we say that God enable us? It means He gives us the power, ability and authority to do great things for His kingdom.
Yes, you could say that God activates and empowers us! King Nebuchadnezzar recognized that God enabled Daniel to do great and mighty things. Because of this, the king enabled Daniel by giving him authority over all of his wise men.
How does God’s power come to us to do great things? Hebrews 13:21, our SuperVerse for today, has the answer:
May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him.
How are we equipped? Through the power of Christ.
Yes, we are enabled through the power of Christ! Let’s demonstrate how this works.
Hold up the power strip. This power strip represents Jesus Christ.
Point to the outlet in the wall. This wall outlet represents God’s power.
Plug the outlet strip into the wall outlet. Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus said in John 10:30:
“The Father and I are one.”
They are connected.
Plug the lamp into the strip. Through Jesus, we are connected to God. That is the only way we can come to God and this is how we receive all we need for doing God’s will.
Turn the lamp on. God enables us to do great things through the power of Jesus Christ! Many people, including the religious leaders in Jesus’ time, wanted to go directly to God for their blessings and power. They thought they were good enough on their own and didn’t need to go through Christ.
Hold the lamp cord plug near the outlet. I can’t insert this in the outlet because it is blocked or closed. Jesus tells us in John 14:6 that no one can come to the Father except through Him! Plug the lamp into the power strip again and turn it on.
Ephesians 1:3 says that God blesses us with every spiritual blessing because we are united with Christ. It is through Christ that we are enabled, empowered and equipped with everything we need for our light to shine and do great and mighty things!
Let’s read what Jesus says about our light in Matthew 5:14–16:
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Pray: Heavenly Father, remind us to stay connected to You through Jesus. We want to let our lights shine so others can see Christ in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
