Welcome (1 minute)

Welcome, everyone! This is the last lesson of our Superbook adventure, “Jesus in the Wilderness.” Through Jesus, God supplies all of our needs—even forgiveness for our sins and eternal life! Let’s stand and sing The Salvation Poem and thank Jesus for defeating temptation and sin so that we can live victorious lives here on Earth now, and forever up in heaven!

SuperTruth and Discussion (2 minutes)

Our SuperTruth today is, “We are made right with God through Christ.”

Let’s say it together. We are made right with God through Christ.”

Have you ever had a disagreement with a family member or a friend?

It is a sad and uncomfortable feeling to not know where you stand in a relationship with someone—you just want things to be restored to the way it was before! In order to make up after an argument, it’s important to ask for and receive forgiveness. Then, your relationship can be made right again.

When sin came into the world, no one was right with God. The relationship was broken. However, Jesus lived a sinless life on Earth and made it possible for us to be made right again with God. By trusting in Jesus as our Savior, we become righteous in God’s eyes. Our sin is cleansed and wiped clean because of the blood that Jesus shed on the cross to pay for our sins.

Let’s say our SuperTruth together once more. We are made right with God through Christ.”

Now let’s make it personal for each of us and say “I am made right with God through Christ.” “I am made right with God through Christ.”

Introduce Condensed Bible Story (1 minute)

If most or all children watched the Bible story video in a previous lesson, omit it here and go straight to the SuperVerse.

Let’s watch a short version of the video about Jesus in the wilderness. If you’ve already seen it, watch carefully to find out what the devil tempted Jesus to do on top of the Temple.

Play Video 4: Condensed Bible Story (10.5 Minutes)

Superbook takes Chris, Joy and Gizmo to meet Jesus—first when He is a boy, speaking to the elders at the Temple, then when He is a man, resisting Satan’s temptations in the wilderness. The children learn how the Word of God can help them stand strong.

SuperVerse (2 minutes)

Our SuperVerse today is 2 Corinthians 5:21:

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Why do you think Jesus was the only one who could provide an acceptable offering to God for our sin—why couldn’t another human? Because Jesus was the only person without sin. He lived a perfect life.

Hebrews 10:10 says,

For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.

In the Old Testament, people had to make many offerings and sacrifices for their sins. Do we have to do that today? No.

That’s right. When Jesus died, His sacrifice paid for everyone’s sins—forever. The work has been done, once and for all. All we must do is trust in Jesus. Let’s say the SuperVerse again. 2 Corinthians 5:21:

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Children will have more time to learn the SuperVerse in Small Group. If any children are not able to memorize the entire verse, be sure they understand its meaning.

Introduce Signposts Video (1 minute)

Let’s watch the Signposts video to learn how Jesus’ time in the Temple and the temptations He defeated help us to understand His ministry in a deeper way.

Prayer and Send-Off (2 minutes)

Let’s pray before we move to Small Group. Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to live a perfect life as a human on the earth, then to die as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. We praise You for giving us forgiveness and new life! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Raise your hand if you have ever played a game called “Bottle Flipping.” In Small Group today, you will have a chance to flip bottles to make a point. Are you ready to “make a stand”? Let’s go find out what it’s all about.

Teachers take children to Small Group classes for Grades 1–3 and 4–6. If the combined group is small, all children may stay together for Small Group time.
