Leader Guide

Promises to Keep (Optional Craft)

  • Copies of Advent Booklet of God's Promises Color—one per child, plus extras
  • Colored pencils or fine-tipped markers (For use with Advent Booklet of God's Promises B&W)
  • Scissors
  • Tape, glue, or paste
  • At least one finished example to show

Students make a page of God’s promises to keep with them as they go.

What to do:

Give each student the Booklet of God's Promises sheet. Set the markers or colored pencils, scissors, and tape, glue, or paste where they can be shared.

We’re going to make promises we can keep. Here’s how: we’ll put some of God’s promises on this paper and keep them in our pocket! Show the finished example of the page with the promises cut out and attached, and how to fit it in your pocket.

Help students as they complete the project.

Notes: Don’t miss the play on words about ‘keeping’ promises. And don’t be afraid to overuse the joke. Young people often have no qualms with repeating a joke. If you have a large group of kids (over twelve or so), you may need to break them into smaller groups and have other adult leaders demonstrate the craft and/or help them complete the project. If so, have those leaders make their own finished examples beforehand. Be familiar with the promises on God’s Promises page. Students may have questions about these.
