Welcome (1 minute)

Hello, everyone, and welcome back! Today is the second lesson of our Superbook adventure, “Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream.” Nebuchadnezzar was a powerful king in Babylon. Before we find out more about him, we have the privilege of worshiping the King of kings and the Lord of lords! Let’s stand and worship Jesus now as we sing “Lord of Everything.”

SuperTruth and Discussion (2 minutes)

Last time, we learned that God will reveal things to us if we do what? Ask.

Yes, when we ask, God will reveal great and mighty things to us that we can’t know on our own. He reveals things to us for different reasons. One reason is to equip us and empower us. That’s why our SuperTruth for today is: “God enables us to do great things.” Let’s say it together.“God enables us to do great things.”

Would you like to do great things?

Yes, I think we all would like that, and with God’s help we can. We will find out more about that in Small Group! In the Superbook adventure last time, who was trying to do too many things and having difficulty getting them all done? Joy.

Yes; that’s when Superbook took Joy, Chris and Gizmo back in time to meet King Nebuchadnezzar, who had a very strange dream. They also met Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who are also in other famous Bible stories that you may know. For the children who weren’t here last time, we’ll watch a short version of the video now. If you have already seen it, watch for something that one of the wise men drops when King Nebuchadnezzar orders that they allbe killed!

Condensed Bible Story

Superbook takes Chris, Joy and Gizmo to meet Daniel, who as a young man serves King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. Frightened by a nightmare, the king orders his wise men to tell him his dream and explain its meaning—or be killed. When Daniel asks his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to pray, God reveals the dream. Daniel tells Nebuchadnezzar that it foretells the fall of his empire and the destruction of several others before all are replaced by God’s enduring kingdom.

Discussion (2 minutes)

What were Daniel and his three friends doing when Joy, Chris and Gizmo “crashed in” to the palace? They were working late at night, writing on scrolls as part of their duty as scribes for the king.

Who did Daniel credit for telling him the king’s dream and its meaning? God; he said that God reveals secrets.

What did the king do after Daniel told him the dream and its meaning? He kneeled before Daniel and actually worshiped him. He made him chief of all the wise men and governor of Babylon. (See Daniel 2:46–48.)

God enabled Daniel to do what the other wise men could not by telling him both the dream and the interpretation. Through it all, Daniel remained humble and gave God the credit.

Introduce Bible Background Video (1 minute)

In the Bible Background video we’ll learn more about Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar, and Babylon, where today’s Bible story takes place. When Gizmo asks a question, wait for him to give some possible answers, then call out the one you think is right!

SuperVerse Discussion (1 minute)

Let’s say our SuperVerse together. Hebrews 13:21:

May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him.

Who equips us in this verse? God.

Does He give us just some of what we need? No, He gives us all we need.

God gives us everything we need to do His will and to please Him. God equips us and enables us to do great things for Him to fulfill His purposes and His plans for our lives.

Children will have more time to learn the SuperVerse in Small Group. If younger children are not able to memorize the entire verse, be sure they understand its meaning.

Prayer and Send-Off (1 minute)

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, Daniel needed to be equipped with knowledge that only You could give him. You answered his prayer and revealed the secrets of the king’s dream. Thank You for equipping us with everything we need to please You and to serve You. Help us do great things—not in our own strength, but with Your wisdom and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

In Small Group you will play a game where your team will be equipped with everything you need to win! Are you ready to find out more?

Teachers take children to Small Group classes for Grades 1–3 and 4–6. If the combined group is small, all children may stay together for Small Group time.
